Getting the children out of the tunnel had been easy once Zarok proved to them that he was not there to hurt them. Instead, they discovered that he was quite cuddly and fluffy and perfectly nice to them as he told them "I will get you back home."

The only problem was that most of them were too small to make the trip in a short amount of time. But thankfully one of the children was older than the rest already, basically an adult in the humans’ eyes. And that meant that Zarok could coordinate with the boy.
After that he led them out of the tunnel, especially the steep incline inside the hut. There he had to get each of them out one by one. His wound, while hurting, didn't prevent him to make those jumps and once they made their way out of the hut, with Zarok leading the way, the blood began to dry as well.

It was early in the morning when they left the hut, their trek through the woods accompanied by the wandering sun above the tree tops. The hours melted away and so did whatever patience the children might have had. They were thirsty and hungry and exhausted and scared. So Zarok made sure to lead them past a little river. The water was cold but at least quenched their first, quietening the demand for food for a little while longer.
Then, finally, they made it. Zarok moved through the bushes before the forest gave way to the village.

One of the men saw him first and then the children stumbling out besides Zarok.

After that hell broke loose. The entire village came together, the children cried and ran to their mothers, while others bowed to Zarok, speaking prayers and thanking him in hushed, tearful voices.

And then there was a small boy standing before Zarok. Big, fat tears ran down his face. "Fox got hurt," he cried distressed while one of the even smaller children tried to grab onto Zarok.

But Zarok didn't mind, instead he gently put his nose into the boy's hair. "The fox will be alright, little kit. Wounds heal."

Still, it took some time for the crying to stop and for a humbled mother to collect her son. She bowed to Zarok many times, thanking him for blessing her son while the son himself gave Zarok a sheepish expression through the last of his tears.

Soon, all the children were with their parents and all eyes were on Zarok.
For a moment he met each of those faces one after another until he saw the old woman he had talked to during the night. He nodded at her.

He then turned around and went back into the forest, vanishing into the tree's shadows.

It was after that eventful night, that Zarok's little shrine was discovered again. The villagers made sure to visit it often, to pray to Zarok or offer him food that they left there.
It would take a while, before those villagers’ children's children would slowly forget him again.

Aaaaanddd the last part. Boy, this one sucked all the energy out of me, I'm so glad we made it here!
Zarok gained some new followers, despite not needing or wanting them, and a village got their children back. Happy end for everyone :D

Also I'm sure that boy went on with the nickname "Kit" despite Zarok just calling everyone's children that way. No matter if human or not

Haha, despite this one being such a 'stupid' piece to make, I'm still happy I made this little story for him <3
