He brought it home, washed the little shivering ball of fur and wanted to keep it but his parents didn't allow him to. So he took it to Mizuki and it got adopted by him and his family that already had a bunch of cats. Marshmallow has been living with Mizuki ever since and moves out with him when he and Akaya get an apartment together. The cat is also thought of as their first child by Mizuki. He once said the famous line that made Makoto's heart race and Haru's murder instinct get triggered: "Akaya has given me my first child sooner than I expected!" ...with a totally loving face. Luckily, the misunderstanding was solved soon and Akaya was allowed to keep is head. It is also unclear for a long time, which gender Marshmallow has since it would not let anyone check. Later on, it is revealed that it's a female when she gets pregnant.
